Curcumin is a polyphenolic, phytochemical, non-flavonoid derived from turmeric and has been well studied to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic and antimutagenic effects. Many studies have also suggested that the absorption and bioavailability of curcumin is minimal.

Curcumin is a lipophilic polyphenol that is NOT water soluble, and so many Curcumin products found on the market that are designed to be injected or infused will precipitate, meaning the solute molecules will reform a solid in the reverse of dissolution thus creating a potentially dangerous bolus. Of course, this is also part of the reason for short half-life and poor bioavailability.

This Curcumin is very unique due to a +3 year process for perfecting the proper solvents needed to retain dissolution. This Curcumin uses a version of Hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (CD) which is an FDA Approved compound for solubilizing, capturing, and delivering drugs in humans. A side-benefit of CD is that it has also been shown to solubilize cholesterol crystals (CC) and promotes the metabolism of these CC’s into water-soluble “prodrug” called 27-hydroxycholesterol. This action of CD as an inverter (compound that causes innate biomolecules to act opposite of their normal function) activates anti-inflammatory receptor genes, promotes both active and passive efflux of cholesterol from macrophages, and ultimately reduces atherosclerosis. And this is just the delivery mechanism!
