Exosomes

What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are nano sized, lipid-bound signaling units derived from cells. Exosomes are secreted by virtually every cell in the body, in response to the surrounding environment, in an attempt to bring the environment back into balance. Each different type of cell secretes an exosome specific to that type of tissue (heart, liver, lung, kidney, cord, placenta, etc.) so it is incredibly important to know which cell the exosomes are sourced from. Exosomes are non-cellular and are defined as ‘packets of information’ that contain proteins, nucleic acids (messenger RNA and micro RNA), bioactive enzymes, immunomodulatory factors, and growth factors. The exosome is enclosed in a lipid (fat) bilayer membrane that also contains multiple proteins, allowing them to rapidly penetrate and deliver their bioactive cargo. Scientists agree that the most important part of an exosome is the proteins, because it is the proteins that initiate change.
Studies have confirmed that these extracellular vesicles have beneficial effects on inflammation, autoimmunity and regeneration, and contain over 300 growth factors responsible for wound repair and tissue regeneration.

(MSC) EXOSOMES FOR MEDICAL AESTHETICS

Exosomes are tiny protein packets that allow cells to communicate with each other. Ranging from 50 nm to 150 nm in size, these extracellular vesicles use messenger RNA as the “ON” switch for regenerative mechanisms, anti-inflammatory cytokines, angiogenic growth factors, and anti-prostaglandin signals. Their microRNA is the “OFF” switch for matrix catabolic enzymes, chronic inflammatory cytokines, and other signals.

Most importantly, exosomes are rich in growth factors, particularly TGF-β3, VEGF, IL-10, as well as TIMPs-1 and -2, relating particularly to skin issues.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) exosomes offer several skin effects, including fibroblast stimulation, wound angiogenesis, collagen extracellular matrix production, inflammation/immune response, hair follicle growth, and dermal papilla cell regeneration.

Exosomes show tremendous results at stimulating both fibroblasts proliferation and migration as well as increasing extracellular matrix production and deposition. Studies have shown Exosomes to be a highly effective, non-invasive and holistic approach to aesthetics and rejuvenation.
